三、說明來電的理由 (Giving reasons for calling)
在電話交談開始時,最好澄清你打電話的原因,這有助於雙方談論相關內容。
(1) I’m calling to ask about/discuss/clarify…
我打電話來是為了詢問/討論/澄清……
Example:
● I’m calling to ask about your current promotion.
我打電話是要詢問目前的促銷活動。
(2) I just wanted to ask…
我只想要詢問……
Example:
● I just wanted to ask if you need any more photos for next month’s magazine.
我是想問一下你下個月的雜誌是否需要更多照片。
(3) Could you tell me…?
你可否告訴我……?
Example:
● Could you tell me the address of the coming annual dinner?
你能告訴我即將到來的年度晚宴的地址嗎?
四、要求留言 (Leaving messages)
當你打電話給某人,但是她/他不在時,你應會想要留言,這時你可以套用以下句子來說:
(1) Could you please take a message? Please tell her/him that…
你能不能代為留言? 請告訴她/他……
Example:
● Could you please take a message? Please tell her that Mandy from accounting called about Mr. Wilkinson’s expense reports.
你能不能代為留言? 請告訴她,會計部的Mandy來電話詢問威爾金森先生的費用報告。
(2) I’d like to leave her/him a message. Please let her/him know that…
我想留言給她/他,請告訴他/她……
Example:
● I’d like to leave him a message. Please let him know that tomorrow’s lunch meeting is cancelled.
我想留言給他,請告訴他明天的午餐會取消了。
